- A Complete History of Connecticut: Any serious student of early Connecticut history should read Benjamin Trumbull's A Complete History of Connecticut, Civil and Ecclesiastical: From the Emigration of its First Planters, from England, in the Year 1630, to the Year 1764; and to the Close of the Indian Wars. Benjamin Trumbull was born in Gilead in 1735, in a house which still stands on Porter Road. The book has been digitized and can be read in a choice of formats.
