The second-annual Juneteenth Celebration in Hebron. This special event, which commemorates the end of slavery in the US, will be held on Saturday, June 17th from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm at the Peters’ House in Burnt Hill Park.

This Juneteenth Celebration is sponsored by the Coalition on Diversity & Equity (CoDE) and held in collaboration with Parks & Recreation’s Hebron Day. Generous funding was provided by the Town of Hebron as well as many local businesses and individuals.

A variety of educational and fun activities will be offered for children and adults. These include:

  • Bolokada Conde – world-renowned master drummer
  • EvaE Peart and Nia Arts – drumming and dancing
  • Lisa Clayton Singers – 15-member ensemble gospel music
  • Frederick Douglass-Knowles II – Hartford Poet Laureate
  • Hartford’s Proud Drill, Drum and Dance Corp
  • Peters’ family performance about Cesar Peters
  • Dance by RHAM High School students
  • Sisters by Sisters: Joined by the Cloth – African-American quilt-making guild
  • Tours of Peters’ House by Historic Properties Commission members
  • Kids’ activities – StoryWalk, scavenger hunt, face painting, arts & crafts

Additional activities:

  • 9:30 – 9:45am – Brief ceremony at African American section of Wall Street Cemetery, with descendants of Cesar Peters
  • Bus tours of Hebron sites where Black Americans lived and worked
